UNDERWATER PHOTOGRAPHY IN A WORD

Underwater in one word, "frustration"  Limitations of equipment light visibility and time make for a challenging hobby however this aside when you get it right it feels fantastic.

Ok so less is more take your time and get your subject matter in view taking care with your light to avoid shadows and scatter (Scatter is the reflection of particulates in the water, a real pain for flash photography).

Remember Safety First don't put yourself at risk getting that photograph it really is not worth it!

First Tip

Practice your diving, good diving skills will help your photography and excellent buoyancy control is a must.

Second Tip

Buying your camera

Choose your equipment carefully with so many different cameras available be sure that you get one thats suitable for your needs,

Do you want a film or digital camera , (Look for a good quality lens and optical zoom   ).

Still photography or Video, "Ask yourself-Do I have the time and commitment for video???"

Good Lighting will enable you to bring out more of the natural colour, remember how colours disappear as you lose the light with red being the first to go.,

 

 


IMPORTANT ADVICE

The most important advice you can receive, however, has little to do with photography per se, and everything to do with your safety. A watery environment can be a dangerous environment, even if it is a back yard pool. No photograph is worth any risk to your life and safety. Depending on the type of underwater photography you wish to pursue, you must first acquire appropriate specialized knowledge and training, and receive certification from qualified instructors. This applies to every aspect of underwater activity, from basic swimming skills to advanced deep-sea diving techniques. You must rigorously train yourself to keep techniques of survival uppermost in your mind when taking underwater pictures, since it is possible to become so engrossed that you may tend to overlook basic safety procedures. Learn and apply all safeguards all the time, and if you have any uncertainty about whether what you are doing or thinking of doing may be risky, then consider it risky and
