Diving The Rother Way.
The Rother Diving Club Newsletter. (January/February 2008) Welcome to Rother Diving Clubs latest newsletter. This newsletter is to let you know the goings on within your club. To inform you of forth-coming events, dives, tips, club procedures, rules and regulations.
Message from your chairman Chairman Jaki Beaton Jaki writes “Happy New Year Everyone! Let's hope that 2008 brings us better weather for diving and getting Rother Diver out as often as possible! Looking forward to the coming year, when I get back from holiday and when the weather improves slightly I plan to get some stuff together to sell at a local boot-sale to raise funds for the club. So if you have anything hanging around that you would like to get rid or are having a spring clean and would like to donate unwanted goodies to the club boot sale pitch then let me know – I do not intend to start collecting until the end of February but if you have anything that you need to clear out before that, then let me know and I will see what I can arrange.Continuing along the theme of raising funds for the club, how about a summer dance of some sort? Maybe a barn dance? Has anyone got any other suggestions for good fun events? Please let me know, it would be great to get something organised as it is a while since we have done anything like that. Here's to a fantastic year for everyone and I will catch up with you all in the middle of February – when I get back from Australia!! If you wish to contact me, please feel free to do so by email to jaki_beaton@spe.sony.com or by phone on 07973 350566”. Jaki Beaton – RDC Chairman. Messages from your Committee.
Diving Officer (Mike Thorpe). Not a lot happening at the moment. Don't forget, if you are planing a holiday or any diving to inform me. Remember our Web Site. Www.rotherdivingclub.co.uk for up to date club information and news.
Training Officer (Steve Hollick). We currently have two trainees in the pool. If you have not completed your pool training or lectures, please let me know.
Boat Officer (Ian Sayers). What a poor diving year 2007 turned out to be. After a successful May bank-holiday when our Dutch friends came over to dive with us, I thought this would be the beginning of a great years diving but “Mother Nature” had other plans. CRAP WEATHER!! The knock on affect from such a bad years diving is as you a probably aware is the club committee had to make the decision to take Rother Diver (RD) out from Sovereign Harbour, because we just couldn't afford the mooring fees. We had to pay a penalty excess to cancel the contract (thanks to the members who put there hands in there pockets to help cover that), but in the long run this action has saved the club money. We are keeping RD out at Nicky's Equestrian centre, and are planing to store RD close to the slip-way at Rye Harbour (much Cheaper). We will have to sort out the procedure of using the Slip, Rules of Rye harbour and of course, where the dive sites are. These are activities for the near future.
********************************************************************* Club Treasure (Lisa Cherry) A notice from Lisa. Don’t forget it’s that time of the year again! Membership payment should have been paid in full. ********************************************************************* Equipment Officer (Chris Scotcher) Please wash off and return club equipment to cage after use. If you are not training and use club cylinders in the pool, please make a small donation to RDC for air. If you find any faulty equipment please inform me.
Club Secretary (Nicky Hiller) SAA membership cards have now been issued. If you have not got yours see me. General News. Kit Maintenance. Why not get you dive equipment serviced during the winter whilst it's not being used. Then your be ready for a busy diving season.
Fund Raising RDC is always in need of money, so if you have any suggestions how we can raise some much needed funds let any of the committee know.
Rother Diving Club Weekend Dive Extravaganza May/June 2008. We have been asked to look into organising another Diving weekend in England for the Dutch to come over. We will be probably looking at early June 2008. Dates to be announced in next news letter.
Your 2008 Committee: Chairman: Jaki Beaton Diving Officer: Mike Thorpe Training Officer: Steve Hollick Boat Officer: Ian Sayers Equip’t Officer: Chris Scotcher Treasurer: Lisa Cherry Secretary: Nicky Hiller General Committee Members: Michael Jackson, Ian Kent, Tony Skippings, Ian Stockdale , Gavin Parker Thanks to everyone for standing this year. Late Christmas Dinner. As you all know, The RDC Christmas Dinner didn't happen. Though we did have an enjoyable night out in Hastings old town the Friday before. At the recent committee meeting it was suggested that we should arrange something in the first quarter of this year. We might like to attend a High Beech Hotel function, they have themed nights. So were going to find out what themes are coming up. Or have a meal early evening, then have a few drinks after. (Your suggestions please! ED)
Trips Abroad. Want to dive in warm clear water. Nicky has been in contact with “Active Adventures”, looking into diving holidays in the Red Sea (and something about some wreck called the Thistlegorm). The more of you that want to go the better. Why not speak to Nicky and get something sorted. Steve's been contacted by a company in France, Re: diving the Cote-D'Azur, “Diamond Diving”. They appear to specialise in weekend diving trips, organising accommodation, and dives. All you have to do is arrange you flight and they will pick you up from a local airport. He has some available dates, so speak to Steve.
We have recently be contacted by a member of a group of divers, with a boat moored in Newhaven. Tad Taberer ( who is actually from Bexhill ) a member of Meridian Divers, is offering us the opportunity to attend a Film Night at Alfriston in late February. There is a charge for this evening and refreshment will be included. Meridian Divers have adopted a wreck, the TR Thompson, a very good dive if you have been fortunate enough to dive her (ED). Speak to a committee member if you are interested.
Forth-coming Events. Feb. 21st Club committee Meeting (Bell Hotel 20.00hrs). March 8th-9th Dive Show (London Excel Centre). The club will be getting a new diary for next year. This will be at the club on Monday evenings and at all club meetings. If you want to arrange a try-dive or any other activity within the club, you will be able to check dates for availability. When arranging try-dives please make sure you also check with Steve. Next Newsletter out early March If you have any stories, dive reports or if you like to add anything else let me know during February.
